What to look for in SEO Consultants:

Want to land at the top of searches but have no idea where to start? Or, even if you’ve studied your  Search Engine Optimization (SEO) homework, you found you haven’t got the time.  SEO Consultants can be hired to do the job.  They analyze your site’s current state and will lead you step-by-step to slowly increase the combination of factors that add up to making those sales : the significant traffic looking for your wares, ranking, relevant content over at your site, plus more.

There are a lot of SEO Consultants out there and you’ve got to find the one that matches your needs.  Keep in mind several pointers to make hiring an SEO Consultant satisfactory for you and your website.

  1. Honest  – The question on every potential clients mind is “Will you be able to put me on number one at the first page?”  If you are guaranteed with a resounding yes, be careful.  Google search behavior is privy only to Google.  No one knows what their standards are for putting you up at no.1.   Your consultant will tell you, there are no guarantees, but you can be guaranteed of diligently putting it all together, over and over, until gotten right.
  1. Analytical, and not just of the reasoning kind -  Site analytics show the patterns of behavior of people moving through your site.  Analytics include what page people land on, what page do they leave, how long are they on your site, do they transfer to other pages, geographical data, software data… the whole story of how people go to your site and use it.

Your consultant should be adept at site analytics.  S/he should understand what is going on at your site.  Likewise, your business should be too.  Your consultant should be transparent and let you have full access to the analytics data.

  1. With business background – Your consultant should look through your business model and strategies.  S/he will integrate this with the SEO strategies that will be needed.
  1. Experience – If the SEO site itself has low ranking or poor traffic, maybe it is newly formed.  Ask for sites the consultant has worked on and see how it fares in the search arena.  Also, look inside the sites to see what SEO strategies have been used.  There are questionable tactics that make the search engines ban you forever.  Make sure the strategies are acceptable and honest.
  1. Communicative – Your consultant should walk you through the process.  You should be up-to-date of what’s happening, and you should be informed of how to understand the workings of SEO, analytics and even conversions to sale.  You should received weekly, monthly and quarterly reports of data changes and more.

These are only some traits you can look for in SEO consultants.  Use your sense as you would choosing your doctor, lawyer, banker, and other professionals.  If you are not comfortable with the consultant, look again until you find one who matches your business.  SEO is an integral part of your business, so use all care until you find the SEO Consultant just right for you.
